thanks for all the info. guys! That's helped to clear a lot of questions I had. From what you've said so far I think the EtherNEC might be the best bet. I contacted Rory to confirm he's still producing them and he said yes, which is great. I'll probably have to order one of his PS2 adaptors too at the same time (ball mice are just a no no!) Bit miffed as the guy I bought the system off listed a ps2 adaptor as included in the sale, but suddenly "lost" it when it came time to ship. :/
Anders: I hear what you say about ideally needing FreeMINT and it not being suitable for a standard 030+14MB setup. But hopefully I can get-by with a TOS stack and client s/w using an EtherNEC? As long as it's at least reasonably usable, i'd be happy. I'm not planning to download thousands of megs to the falcon in any one sitting, or backing up the falcon HDs over LAN, or surfing the web, etc. it will only really be for small program files I have found whilst browsing on my PC. Having said that, for the small files I am thinking of, I could probably get away with a basic serial-port connection. hmmm, I'll have to give the whole thing some more thought first I think! :)
