I agree. CPU speed doublers were very popular because they were cheap and made benchmark programs look very good.
But the Falcon's critical element is the ST Bus which remains at 16MHz and massively slows down any bus access of the CPU.

Regarding that 50/60 program you mention, that sounds rather like a 50/60Hz switch for RGB monitors. I don't think there was any simple speeder running at 60MHz.
