What do you mean by "collapsing from a live state"? It is a very annoying noise that comes out from the audio circuitry (jacks,monitor) and it eliminates only when I use the reset button in the "Matrix accessory".
But when I use something that causes a HARDWARE DSP reset (the same happens with cold/warm boot?) it starts again.
I don't really know. I have tried FPATCH2.PRG but the matter is to hardware-solve it. The sound is initiated at power on (very first Atari logo), even before the RAM test. So, it is 99,9% hardware. Maybe some bad resistor/capacitor in the audio circuitry ?
The machine has also an FX3-in-1 expander fitted, if it can help you.
