Hello Steve,
I've overlooked something in this mail.
If it's a 800XE, than it has some empty spots on the board. 8 for Memory-chips, one for a management-chip and maybe another for a TTL-chip.
And Best Electronics do sell this management chip. This has number CO25953. It should be fitted to the left side of the socket position. There's room for a 20Pin chip, but this one is smaller.
Once these parts are fitted (and maybe some 33Ohm resistors) the board is fully 130XE compattible. (This is even less effort than making the upgrade with TTL-Circuits)
A combination of a GAL16V8 and a 74LS95 also work. (I've tested both methods and can program a GAL)
