Ah, bugger...
I did indeed have them in correctly.
The Screen came up, but then about half a second later, a block of about 1.5" square apeared in teh top/left of the screen... I suppose about where the RAM check should appear, but then 3 bombs come up and it resets.
Thats about the best I have managed!
I think the ROMS are poo-pooed
I swapped them over ( ODD - EVEN ) and the screen didnt even appear.
I oput the 1.62 ROMS back in, deliberately the wrong way round ( ODD in EVEN, EVEN in ODD ) and that too gave a blank screen, but when inserted correctly, the ST booted up fine into GEM.
I gave it another few tries... Seating might be off, dirt in the previously unused pinholes etc etc etc, but it gave me a fairly reliably reproducable problem, each time and every time doing the exact same thing.
I put the ROMS back into the card, stuffed the card into an old PC and under Win98, it was able to access the ROMS just fine under GEMulator, and it booted into TOS 2.6 under GEMulator just fine????
Could it be possible that the GEMulator ROMS are NOT quite compatible with the STE?
Its not really a big big issue, dont get me wrong... its had 1.62 since birth, and its rarely used anyway, but it would have been nice to use the ROMS though.
