Doesn't sound very good to me - especially the skinny
lines of rainbow colour and the fact that the disk drive LED
never lights up.

I remember that if the Shifter fails to read memory, it
halts the whole system and displays a black screen - but
it should not show lines of rainbow colour.

I'd open it and look for broken solder pads - dropping it
from 4 inches certainly didn't help.
