I went ahead and pulled it all apart. I wasn't sure which was the memory management unit, so i removed, gently pried the pins on the chips out ward (i found seven that were socketed, and then reseated them as best as i could. put it all back together and powered up with no change. I did notice though that if i flick the power switch on and off quickly, that every third or fourth time i get a soft "thunk" from the disk drive, and that if i put my ear up to it, there is a faint click from the drive every time i flick the power.
I inspected all the solder pads that i could see and none were cracked or damaged either.
could the disk drive its self be bunk? I think i may be close to giving up on this one
thanks -ndst
