Your best chance of getting a 810 Happy Drive with v7.x firmware is Best Electronics, ATY Computer etc....
They actually know what the an 810 v7 Happy drive is.......

As far as 810 MPI drives go... I personally have not heard of the MPI drive having an inherent defect as you state...

Did you discover a webpage documenting this?

Just a fast note.... if you have an 1050 drive,,, ATARIMAX.COM is manufacturing BRAND NEW 1050 Happy drive upgrades.. he sells them on Ebay on an unending basis... I bought 2 of them recently... They work perfectly.
