MULE doesn’t have 34 sectors. The protection in MULE, as all the older ECA titles, is skew alignment. There are two different releases of Seven Cities of Gold. The older one has, again, skew align. Only the newer one has 34 sectors. The game is exactly the same in both releases, just the protection is different.
**** YOU JUST ANSWERED YOUR OUN QUESTION,,,,...MY COPY OF MULE "DOES HAVE" THE 34 SECTOR PROTECTION,,, I GUESS IT MUST BE A NEWER COPY TOO? .... THE 34 SECTOR TRACK IS TRACK 4......
Really? So let’s do some math. A track at normal speed (288 RPM) can contain maximum 19 sectors. A track written at 270 RPM can have 19*288/270 ~= 20 sectors (plus a quarter). So how did you fit data for 24 sectors?
****
**** YOUR MATH IS ONLY CORRECT IN THE CASE OF THE ORIGINAL 810 CIRCUIT SPEED. yOU FORGET THAT THE HAPPY DRIVE DOES NOT WRITE SECTORS, BUT WHOLE TRACKS AT A TIME!! THEREFORE DUE TO ITS HIGHER WRITING SPPED AND THE TRACK BUFFER.....DUH!!!! YOU CAN TRY TO SLICE AND DICE THAT ALL YOU WANT, BUT THEIR IS SIMPLY NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET BY THE 1-1 COPY OF THE SCOG.... 34 SHORT SECTORS..
Furthermore, how you create the overlapped 34 sectors on the Happy? You can’t, and this has no relation to the drive speed. To create the overlapped sectors needed for this protection you need a different type of controller.
***** OVERLAPED!!!!! WTF!!!! THEIR IS NO SUCH THING AN AN OVERLAPPED SECTOR!!!
BAD SECTORS.. DOUBLE SECTORS... WEAK SECTORS... MISSING SECTORS.. .AND SKEWED SECTORS.... OVERLAPPED.... NO....
IF THEIR WAS SUCH A THING AS AN "OVERLAPPED" SECTOR, IT WOULD FALL UNDER THE CATAGORY OF A SECTOR THAT WAS BADLY OUT OF SKEW....
> The autospeed mod was released for the 810 AFTER these types of
> games hit the market. And specifically for that purpose.
> THE DOCS STATE THIS…
No, the DOCS say more than 19 sectors, it doesn’t say 34 sectors.
**** YOU HAVE TO READ ALL THE DOCS INCLUDING THE ADDITIONAL NOTES AND THE ADENDUMS THAT CAME AT THAT TIME THE PURPOSE OF THESE CHANGES WAS CLEARLY INFERED.
> EOA invented the 34 sector track.
No, other companies like Synapse were using this protection long before.
**** NOT EXACTLY,,, Synapse may have came out with overloaded tracks before EOA,@22-24, but EOA WAS the first to use 34 sector per track.....
> Cough...Cough.... WRONG! The 810 Happy with Autospeed mod will
> make a 1-1 copy of TSCOG or M.U.L.E.
No happy can really copy the 34 sectors per track protection.
**** MINE DID*** SO DID MY DADS AND OUR NEIGHBORS****
And every Happy can copy MULE and the older version of SCOG.
***SURE**
> Let’s set the record straight here,,,,,,
> The PDB system was a LEGAL compromise!!! It HAD to be developed
> because he was facing legal pressure from the industry…
> primarily Sierra and EOA….
If this is true, then how come Happy Computers released the Discovery Cartridge for the ST.
***NEED A LESSON IN LEGAL ISSUES AND STANDARD BUSINESS PRATICES DO WE????
IN ORDER FOR HIM TO BE SUED FOR THE NEW PRODUCT,,, THE SUEING COMPANIES WOULD HAVE TO FILE ANOTHER ( SEPERATE )CLAIM...$$$$$$$
FOR "THAT" PRODUCT.... SOMETHING THAT BY THAT TIME WAS SEEN AS UNPROFITABLE OR COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE BY THAT TIME.
"MOVING" THE HAPPY SYSTEM TO THE NEW SYSTEM WAS HIS VECTOR OUT OF THAT MESS AND GAVE HIM A FOOTHOLD ON THE NEW PLATFORM.
** THANKS FOR MAKING MY POINT"""
The Discovery Cartridge can copy and disk published by ECA (either for the ST, the 8-bit and even for other systems), and also any disk published by Sierra. Furthermore, Sierra never used advanced protection techniques, so Sierra didn’t “benefit” at all from the PDB system as you suggest.
> Also, the Happy hardware was physically capable of copying
> EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF ATARI SOFTWARE THAT WAS EVER MADE!
> with the exception of 2… The first was Alternate Reality The Dungeon;
> (Due to the week bit technology)
LOL, it is amazing your complete lack of knowledge. The amount of titles with weak bits is much longer, it is not The Dungeon only. Let’s mention just a few of them that come to mind: Ankh, Scanalizer, Advanced Protection Techniques, Super Archiver (plus other C.S.S. titles), Blue Max 2001, Dimension-X, Synfile+, Syncalc (plus many other Synapse titles), Goonies, Zorro, Mr. Do, Never Ending Story, Alter Reality The City, Questron, etc.
******* ok..ok... i SHOULD HAVE CLAIRIFIED THAT BETTER,, WHEN I MENTIONED THE 2 ABOVE, i DID NOT LITERALLY MEEN JUST THOSE 2,,,, i WAS REFERRING TO THE 2 TYPES OF PROTECTION....I.E. THE WEAK BIT PROTECTION,, USED IN AR..(and yes the others you mentioned) and the laser dammage protection used on Richmans.
And again, despite what you claim, no Happy can copy tracks with more than 21 sectors. The slow mod available in the Duplicator as well, and again, it could copy (sort of) up to 21 sectors per track.
***I dont give a damm about the
***duplicator... its not a Happy, drive is
**it.. you cant equate the two.. the Dup
***couldent do it.. the Happy could....
Furthermore, those tracks with many sectors are not created at all by slowing down the drive. They are created with a special controller that can overlap sectors at willing. Then you can create a huge number of sectors (some tracks in the Super Archiver disk have 42 sectors).
***ONCE AGAIN THEIR IS NO SUCH THING AS AN OVERLAPPED SECTOR,, OR A SECTOR THAT PHYSICALLY "OVERLAPPED ANOTHER. THE DATA FROM THE SECOND SECTOR WHOULD BE OVERWRITTEN BY THE FIRST.. RESULTING IN A SECTOR THAT DID NOT HAVE AND ENDING ENDING ZONE AFTER THE 128TH BYTE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN 2 BAD SECTORS. tHE CONTROLER WOULD REJECT THE READ OF THIS SECTOR AND NOT BRING IN ANY DATA REPORTING THE READ AS BAD. YOU MUST BE SPEAKING OF ....REDUCED SKEW.... I.E. PHYSICALLY REDUCING THE SPACE OR "GAP" BETWEEN THE SECTORS THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO FIT A FEW MORE ON THE TRACK.... THIS WOULD REQUIRE A FASTER WRITE CIRCUIT AND THE ABILITY TO WRITE IN A "TRACK AT ONCE MODE"...............WAIT......OH SHIT...............i JUST DESCRIBED WHAT THE HAPPY DOES AGAIN.........
....SILLY ME......
