I read a while back that you can use a 68008 or was that the 68018? - I dont know, but whatever the Chip was, it was 100% identical but had an FPU built in and used that even when the software didnt call for it... Kind iof giving you FPU speeds whether you wanted it or not, and as it didnt need an FPU, it could work alongside an FPU for when it does use one?

As for the Higher Freq 68000 CPUs... its not only the CPU that sets how fast the Atari is... You lob a 16Mhz CPU in there, withotu doing other stuff to it, its going to still only run at 8Mhz. You will need other thigns to get the CPU to 16MHZ
