Silly question, but did they both go at the same time...

Not silly, a good question. The clock started to go silly. The hard drive became intermittant, I could reboot after many attempts. Then the video started cutting out until it stopped. A few times I wiggled the connector and the video returned, then that no longer made a difference.

and if so... How do you know the IDE Has gone too?

I don't really, it was difficult to boot, behaving like a bad drive, but I can't tell you anymore now as I have no video.

How do you know its the IDE and VIDEO alone? maybe the Falcon just died totally?

I have a power light, but you have a point.

Suggestion, but if they did, or have gone at roughly the same time, then its very likely that the issues are linked.

I agree with that premise.

Quite possible that the PSU is the one to blame perhaps?
If its anything to go by, test your PSU... Take it out and have a play... There is a bundle of wires in there, but only 3 are actually coming from the PSU itself... 12v 5v and Ground. so make sure that all the tabs in the connection are properly making contact to the Falcons pins.

I have TWO good powersupplies for the Falcon. I bought a second power supply off of ebay with a quick click, before realizing that the fuse had went in the power supply. That was a few years ago and not related to the present issue. (good laugh for me and now I have a spare powersupply.)

Disconnect anything and everythign that you dont need... Including the HD. At the end of the day, the Falcon is the important bit not the HD. ( Apart from the Data I know, but ... )

I will do as you suggest here and get back to you....

So, in the Falcon take the HD, the Floppy and the Keyboard off just to see if the basic machine will go.
The RAM can also stop it starting too, so even try ....

Thanks for you help...
