Both the Amiga community and the Atari community shouldn't be seeing each other as enemies.
I guess I'll be in the minority in here since I own an STE, A Falcon 030, A 68030 powered A1200 along with five other Amigas.
I like both machines.
The Amiga hardware was amazing for it's time and really elegant. The Amiga os was pretty impressive as well.
Gem was amazingly easy to use and the ST hardware was nice and easy to code for.
The Falcon is quite nice as well.
Jay Miner described the ST as "A nice machine" which it was.
I like both machines.
Both communities are cool.

I have Linux running on three machines at the moment. It's top class.
You can run Linux on both the Amiga and the Falcon.

Workbench is stable until you start patching it to hell. What does "stiff" mean regarding TOS?
Magic is quite nice on the Atari.
The resource requirements are as low as the AmigaOS.
IF you have to use a PC or a Mac I would reccommend BeOS.
