I recently upped an STE from TOS1.62 to 2.06 and I dont have the STE anymore, so I cannot verify EXACTLY what I did... I should have the docs around but cant put my hand to them at this time...
Basically, on my setup, the 1.62 Chips were longer than the 2.6 Ones.. So, I hd to put the chips to the left and this left 4 holes empty on each socket right.
But then, because they were physically different ones, I also had to desolder then resolder 2 of the 3 Resistors near the ROM Sockets.
Looking back, it was really simple, but at the time I was cacking myself.
Obviously, when you take the originl roms out, try to do it cleanly ( Just in case ) and then add sockets rather than solder the 2.6 roms in directly.
In the mean time I will have a look for the docs.
