Well there's allways Altivec ;-))

I heard they had it running at 1ghz in the lab. A higher clock speed shouldn't be a problem for the G4.
>And what's the point (as Peter(Havoc) >already pointed out) in having exactly the >same components as on PC. We on the atari
Well that's interesting.
Nobody is creating complete computer systems anymore which is unfortunate :-(
Most new developments are being done at the component level.
Interesting enough one of the new chips proposed for the new Amiga is the Project-X one from the X Jaguar development team.
* useless trivia alert
According to Dave Haynie they were contracted to produce a new Amiga chipset at one point.
* end useless trivia alert.
It doesn't matter since the new OS should hopefully be hardware independant.
>platform have plenty of these clones as >well.
One step at a time. When Microsoft has been knocked into shape hopefully some upstart can rock the pc apple cart by producing a complete system. I still think having pci slots etc on a new Atari(Milan)/Amiga(BoXer) is a good idea.

If it's based on QNX speed shouldn't be a problem ;-))
>say it could go far. But on PC (and every >other machine) we have Linux. And this can
Linux is cool don't get me wrong but QNX is much faster.
>also be as compact as you want and is very >efficient as well.
You have to use a specially modified real time version of the Linux kernel for hard realtime tasks. Linux isn't as well suited to this as QNX. Of course considering the speed which Linux is developed at that may not remain true for long. ;-)
>I just wanna make it clear that I think >amiga2 is an exciting development, but it
Another new machine after so long is such good news. Even for Atari people as it means there is more choice and if Amiga can make a dent in the market it gives other companies a chance.
More choice is a Good Thing(tm) :-))
>won't change the computerworld as we know >it (which in my eyes WILL need to happen >someday).
Well on the PC now you have a choice of what operating system to run. That choice isn't well spread enough but if the DOJ can keep Microsoft from eliminating competition from the industry then the Wintel Duopoly will have been weakened. This opens the door for home computer manufacturers hopefully.
I would love to see an 80's style home computer scene again.
>To peter: hey, amiga has nothing like >cubase audio or notator logic. It can't
I don't know about midi but Octamed Sound Studio is damn good. Then again so is Groumph(sp) tracker :-)

Niche computing rocks!
None of this one size fits all crap ;-))
>But I agree amiga has the best graphics >programs. They were always better.
Dpain on the ST was good. I prefered it to the Amiga version. The same team that deveopled the ST version of dpaint developed Brillaince on the Amiga which was just like the ST version of Dpaint but more modern. ;-))
PPaint on the Amiga is quite good too.
Buy both machines and have fun! :-))
