Nah, I'd say it depends on circumstances. ST-ZIP is designed for simple FAT (TOS) filesystems, where executable files are recognized by their file type (PRG, TOS, APP, TTP, GTP etc).

On unix file systems (such as the Ext2fs partition in your easymint installation), this doesn't apply. Instead, each file is tagged with attribute information, indicating who created the file, access rights, etc. There are also bits that decide whether or not the file is executable. This means that even though the file seems to be a typical Atari executable, the system may not allow you to execute it since the attribute bits indicate that it's not an executable file.

I can't say for 100% if this is an issue with the ZIP-format itself. It's quite possible that they've fixed this issue in later incarnation in the file format. However, it's clear that ST-Zip doesn't handle these attributes properly, which means you'll have to tweak them yourself (using Thing, for example).
