There's a huge difference between making a serial connection available on ethernet - and an actual serial SLIP<>Ethernet gateway. That was my point.
While the former might be useful when making a serial BBS system available on ethernet, it provides very little advantage compared to a serial cable if you plan on using a s PC as a gateway device anyway.
There is definitely a huge difference, that was my point. A serial server does *not* provide transparent ethernet access through SLIP or what ever. It *tunnles* the serial data stream - which is something completely different.
