1: see if you can open a file and load a program, any program and make sure it loads
2: format a 720k disk
3: save some data to it, anything like "save desktop"
if all those 3 things work then your drive is ok
if they don't then you have a prob, and just because the drive inside the Cumana makes noises and the LED comes on doesn't mean it's dead or what often happens with external drives is the cable becomes faulty
good news is though if the drive inside the Cumana is dead you can use ANY PC type drive so long as you can change the drive select ID to "0"
