What make/model was the NVRAM chip you used? Did you scratch any of the electronic traces on the motherboard? Have you checked the integrity of your soldering joints?

There's an article about changing the NVRAM here, but I don't know if it will help you. There's also a couple downloads on this page that reset the clock if your other program is not sufficient.
