Any disk drive with an ID-jumper will do - Most modern disk drives do not feature one so trying an external Atari disk drive is a good idea. The Falcon won't mind a DD disk drive either, but of course it will only read DD-disks then.
The Atari TOS will see any DOS-formatted partition below 32MB, besides that, MS-DOS and GEMDOS moved apart. There's a tool named BigDOS to cure this problem, but i've made a few bad experiences with BigDOS on the Falcon, so i can't really recommend to try.
IDE-to-Compact Flash adapters have proven to work in the Falcon, even though some don't do so instantly, i guess it's similar for IDE-to-SD-card.
Another idea woule be to simply connect a SCSI harddisk or ZIP-drive, even though it would need to be initialized on a separate Atari compatible computer.
Good luck,
