You can actually use the HD as-is though yes?
First off, try to get hold of TOS 2.6, that way, you can boot off the HD.
Failing that, you should ( Must in my view ) set-up a boot floppy, so that it kicks the HD into play, and you can then you can then run everything ( AUTO Folder / ACCs etc ) off the HD.
As far as my set-up goes ( Magic 2 ), I have the following files in the Following Directories...
In the Auto Folder, put "MAGX.PRG" ( It could be a different name )
In the Root, put MAGIC.RAM and MAGX.INF
For the MAGIC Desk, this is placed in a Folder called GEMDESK in the GEMSYS Folder, there are 3 files named "GEMDESK.xxx"
If you are also going to use a replacement Desktop, then you can edit the MAGX.INF file, to point at that, otherwise, the MAGIC DESK will automatically run.
To do this, add, or edit the shell line.
Mine looks like this:-
#_SHL C:EASEEASE.PRG
So, it may be worth ignoring this until its up and running with the Magic Desk.
There is another Dir, called MAGX, which contains the KAOS Desk-type Icons, and a few other tools for Magic. I would put everything else into that to get it running.
I dont know if v4 is the same as mine, but there is also a UTILITY Folder in C: too, and that has the VT52 Program in it.
Is that all any good for you? - Like I said, I have v2, so it will be different, but not by much surely?
One sure thing to do, is back-up your C: and try it all out on a clean disk. I do that anyway regardless, just on the off-chance that I or the program does anything wrong, so I have C: mirrored onto J:.
