I made a similar thingy ten years ago,
but used the STE extra joysticks port.
Those ports is buffered, unlike the
cartrige port, but a weird detail was
that bit 0-7 is r/w but bit 8-15 can
only be read :( so I gave it up after
a while...
I also made a interface for connecting
four analog-joysticks to those ports,
using a 8-in multiplexing 8-bit D/A,
and wrote a four-player "worms" game.
Still got it on the attic, if someone
wants to buy it?
