With "closed systems" I mean that only one company is allowed to make "Amiga" or "Atari" machines. Many people in the "Mainstream" market think they buy a totally different computer just because it is labelled Compaq or Gateway. (Also you will get alot less advertising with a closed system) When Commodore went broke there was no company left to porduce new machines and that of course hit the market very bad. (By the way Commodore always made a profit with Amigas but the debt from their IBM-compatible branch was to big to compensate.) Luckily the new and old Amigas will be/are "open platforms". For instance if nowadays IBM will die the "IBM compatibles" will go on to exist.

Well maybe it is just bigger. Aminet is the best example I can give you of why I think the community is the greatest compared to all platforms.

The very popular A500`s were mostly used for games. But in the old days the A2000 was mostly used by professional video-editing & special effects companies. And for many critical tasks Amigas were used like at NASA for launching space shuttles.

Well at that time when I bought my first Amiga (1989). No other platform was capable of doing such things. Nowadays pre-emptive multitasking is done on many systems although on mostly not as efficient and flexable. I know that the AmigaOS isn`t the best anymore (No improvemnets in over 6 years) QNX is alot more advanced for example. I talked to some expert people in Linux community and they simply addor QNX. It is alot faster and more stable than Linux but it isn`t open source like Linux is. They were simply amazed that Amiga is using the QNX Neutrino Kernel as it`s core for the new OS. And that is why I am so excited about the new Amiga.

Well I know TOS hasn`t got the capabilties but MagiC looks promising but I have never used it. Maybe with some hard work you can do such things but you need something like the Amiga Community to create it. I will keep an eye out! :)

Well QNX is very capable. And if it is true what Amiga says that they are busy adding some revolutionary things too it and not only bugs ;) then it will be wonderfull! Amiga will release some major details this week and will announce the "secret" processor shortly afterwards. (http://www.amiga.com)

It`s a deal ;) De nieuwe Amiga komt weer helemaal in de spotlight!

Sincerly, Mike Bouma.
