Update:
I got the FD recognising the boot sequence (i.e., it tries to boot to FD), but it seems either my spare FD was broken too, or there is another problem. The external drive B works fine (both Cumana 1.4MB and Atari SF314), but not the internal (I tried the FD cable both ways, and the jumpers are set correctly). The HD spins up, but it can't been recognised by any HD Utility software.
So, perhaps the HD is broken, in the case of the HD, very possible in transit no matter what you do to avoid it. But the internal FD???
If anyone has any ideas or spare parts (or even an Atari Falcon) in good condition, contact the Atari Time Machine at http://homepage.tinet.ie/~morrikar
Thanks.
