1/ check the jumpers on the floppy drive.

2/ disconnect the external floppy drive. I think my Mega/STE acted weirdly with a external floppy drive (think it was my hacked SF354 with 1.44 drive) that was switched off. Are you using an Atari laser? unplug it a moment, that can also mess around with they way it boots.

some early MSTEs and TTs (tos 2.1/5 and 3.1/5) dont work with 1.44 drives.

My (very early production) TT has a 720k floppy drive, and despite trying it with a 1.44 drive and a new controller chip bought form Best Electronics it doesnt want to work. I'll have a fiddle with this when I've got the time and post here in the future.
