Yes I finished Iron Soldier I without cheats in normal mode when it first came out. Hardest levels where the night one where you have to protect the lab, The one level near the end where you have to destroy all the buildings on remote islands, and the last level where you have to destroy every building in the city.
What worked for me though I lost a weapon was using the shield in harder levels. Many people recomended against it but it bought me more time to find power ups and get closer to targets.
