The easiest away around the problem, not counting the hotkey process, and is what I use a fair bit.

I have a floppy that just gets me to the desktop, I then manually run the driver program (HD Driver.prg in my case) which then allows access to the hard drive without booting from it.

It's also handy to have SEVERAL boot program available on onme disk! I can then use ICD, ADHI or HD Driver!
