Why F5 or F8 ? This is an Atari, not an PC.

First, to boot to the desktop, and bypass any AUTO programs or Accessories, you have to press the CTRL or ALT key during the bootup. If this doesn't work, try booting from a floppy (with ALT), and then manually run AHDI from the floppy and install a C icon with the desktop option. This should get you to the desktop.

It is a bad idea to have auto loading apps like this, even if you only tend to use one particular program. If you want to make running the program easier, on the Mega STE you can just stick a shortcut icon on the desktop, so why bother.

To stop the auto loading, you first have to find out why it is auto loading, there are several techniques:

-The AUTO folder. Your stitching program might be in the AUTO folder. The AUTO folder should be kept for system add-ons and patches. Move the app to a different folder.
-The NEWDESK.INF file. You make a program run from the NEWDESK.INF file, but this should be reserved to use an alternative desktop like Thing, Jinnee or Neodesk. Open the file with a text editor and remove the file containing the stitching program.
-If you are using MagiC or MiNT it is also possible to do this with CNF file. Same as above.
