To Jan:

The Linux community is great but is also not as well organised as the Amiga community. I talked to alot of Linux folk and there is simply nothing like Aminet or AWD for Linux although the user baser is bigger. Please note that Amiga is also targetting the Linux community as a potential market for the Next Generation Amiga.

To Havoc:

Yes Sony has enough resources to do such a thing on their own. But if Playstations were also advertised by Philips, Panasonic, etc it would have been even a bigger succes.

Yes that is one of the main reasons why things didn`t go that quickly. Even Gateway 2000 had to promise that they would continue producing/developing Amiga technologies before they were "allowed" to buy it.

This kernel is extremely superior and in my view it is almost impossible for Amiga to do something similar in two years on their own. Amiga is putting together a five to seven page product strategy and technology brief that will be released to the Amiga community within this week. (I expect some details on some powerful software structures that enable "revolutionary" tranparent high-speed Networking/Internet capabilites.)

Nope it meant that I wasn`t precisely sure because I didn`t have much time during my last post. The development systems will be released in the late 3Q 1999. The first Amiga2s are targetted for the late 4Q 1999.

Correct the first bunch of Amiga software from the Amiga companies will be made with keeping PPC specced Amigas in mind and will not directly utilize the special capabilities. But they will be at least of "mainstream" quality. They will be written in very portable code and api's like C++ and OpenGL. But these will be the very first software for the new Amiga. The orginal Amiga in the beginning didn`t come with software that actually made the most of the hardware either.

A super secret company. Linus Torvalds work there (Linux creator). And some major companies/people (including Paul Allen) have invested in the "Thing" the are producing! ;)
Stay tuned they will release this thing this year! :)

The new Amiga is a too big of a task to be produced by only one company. (All of the components in PCs and Macs are produced by different 3rd party developers) Amiga has written contracts so if the component suppliers don`t deliver on time these will have a big problem and rest assured that this won`t happen. ALOT of BUCKS are being spent on this project to make sure that it will work out right.

Sincerely, Mike Bouma.

Amiga2 be there! Be there Real-Time! ;)
