Part One

Well, I've been reading this forum a while and it's hard not to notice that longest threads and largest posts (or opposite) are those related to atari-amiga conflict. In the beginning it was interesting, and remembered me of my old spectrum-commodore days but now I found it pretty annoying.

Mike, I really don't know why we are arguing with you? Are we still kids? Or maybe we are sadistic? And tell me, if no one answer to your message, will you still post them?

(silence)

I guess you will.

Why don't you post Amiga messages on Amiga boards and Atari messages on Atari board? (you said that you like Atari, and also you said "Don`t worry I won`t post anything Amiga Related on this message board anymore." and after that you begin with a tread called "Ataris and Amigas are great". And not one thread, but TWO!)

At least, I don't mind Atari-Amiga related messages on this board but can you put that in some constructive and useful content? News about that guy who will make icons for Milan is great news. But you represent that news to us with laugh, lot of laugh.

Do you think it's nice from you not to post at least one atari (only) related message to this board? I know that Rich named it "16/32 bit Forum - Atari, Falcon and Beyond", but I assure you he didn't meant that Beyond means Amiga (well, maybe he did but he was drunk).

So, you better post some Atari (only) message or else - we must kill you (and don't try to be sarcastic, or some silly questions about Photoshop, like some guys on this list). You can try with something like "How can I upgrade my slow Amiga to Atari" or similar.

Well there are lots of questions for you. I guess you'll answer in some (not)funny way but who cares.

- end of part one -

BUT, that's not all. Since I am still kid and sadistic (sadistic kid) I must argue with you little more, after all I write only one message per year so I have a plenty of time.

Part Two

QNX @ Amiga

Adopting QNX as base for primary operating system is very strange decision. From it's begging QNX had a very focused vision that is today completely the same. It is a development of compact real-time system. Main purpose of this OS is in embedded system. Choosing this one as base for new Amiga OS is, by my humble opinion, digging a grave before you are born.

(Mike, if you are not sure, just to make you clear, 'real-time' doesn't mean that you'll be able to render real-time in Real 3D and play Alternate Reality in real-time same time. But I guess you know that.)

Second, choosing OS almost 100% targeted to various integrated systems, medicine equipment and industrial controllers is similar as choosing Solaris to run your washing machine. Following that logic you can suggest them to use Motorola's ColdFire microprocessor for new Amiga. It's also engineered for embedded systems (they suggest it for mobile phones).

Third, QNX lack of native applications already available for primary Amiga market. I remember, long long ago, main system integrator in my town chosed QNX for their development but then quickly switched to Xenix due to better suitability for task (databases in their case).

==========

Amiga-Atari - Personal opinion and some facts
(sorry if I write something that you all know but I have a right to)

Atari was more advanced machine (at hardware point of view) than Amiga and most advanced in its class at that time, featuring really innovative hardware solutions. It has personality, it was suitable for every task at home and office (developers in Germany tooked this "office" very seriously, unfortunately not in USA).

Amiga was, at that time, cosmetic piece of hardware, more suitable for jet set inventory and trade shows then as real computer. It was build around two or three processors developed by ex Atari company, from which computer acquired the name. From hardware point of view machine was very dull (Commodore engineering i guess), except this new special chips. On the other hand, operating system originally called Tripos or something similar was miles away from Atari's (and too ambitious for hardware). If I remember well it was developed by Metacomco. After two years (in 1997) Amiga finally becomes appealing and affordable computer. With better graphics, better sound and better operating system than Atari.

But was it better?

In my town I knew almost all Amiga users (and all Atari, of course) but no one of them, NO ONE, used it for something useful. On the other hand, no one Atarist I knew played games on it (except me). You also needed to invest almost twice more to build Amiga system than Atari - for similar task. I know, I can do DTP on Amiga, and you can make special effects for Jurassic Park but Amiga only survived as game machine.

Anyway Mike I must admit, Amiga was better. And I always suggested every kid who asked me to buy Amiga. I hope you are happy now :o)

Atari was to good machine for everyone, I thought.

"Silly quotes of Amiga supporters on Atari forums"

Both Amiga and Atari are equal, but Atari is more equal then others.
