Only format the drive IF you want to check for bad sectors, AND then only if the software the package you use doesn't have the facility to check for bad sectors.
I have formatted SCSI disks on my Atari's many, many, many times, along with a few other people I know, with no problems at all. In fact some of the SCSI drives didn't seem to work properly until formatted!!!
YOu will need to partition the drive, so don't try just stick the hddriver.sys, or any other .sys file, to you drive, let the software do it for you.
I think I'm going to add the newest version of AHDI that I have to my web site: www.last-pd.co.uk as this request has raised it's head before:)
