Some more information:
Makedisk doesn't work either (using MS-DOS 6.22, no Windoze). It works with 720K, 729K, 738K, 800K, 810K and 820K images.
It fails just like Linux on 748K, 830K and 840K images... I'm starting to think it's a hardware limitation of the PC-floppy...
The weird thing is that in Linux, I can format the disk in those formats with "superverify" turned on and it works just fine! I can also fill the filesystem with files and it still works. But when I bypass the filesystem and write the image directly to the disk it starts to complain about errors on sectors 1620-1680 (cylinder 83 and 84). I just don't get it.... ;-(
