Subject: RE: STFM and SCSI or IDE

That is a frequently asked question, therefore it's in the Quick FAQ.

SCSI adapters are readily available from most Atari dealers. I don't know of any in Poland, but there are probably quite a few in Germany. Woller, Aixit, and some others. Most have web sites. The only IDE adapter is from Mario Becroft. He also has a web site, and some international distributors.

Whether to choose IDE or SCSI boils down to what kind of drive you want to adapt to it.

IDE is cheaper, but the interfaces are designed for internal use. This means either using a 2.5" drive or moving to a tower case. Also, fitting a CD-Rom will not be practical. You're also limited to 2 drives.

SCSI interfaces on the other hand will allow all sorts of devices, scanners, CD Roms, Zips, etc..., but they are designed to be connected to the external ACSI port, which means that you'll need more desk space. SCSI devices are also more expensive.

In both cases, the adapters will cost from 50 to 70 UK pounds, whatever that is in your local currency.
