Hello Everyone,
I finally got a Jaguar -- a secondhand one from eBay! :-)
Good for you!
But I can't get it to work. :-(
Damn...
It didn't come with a manual or power adapter -- just the console, two controllers, and seven games.
Yes, mine had no manual either. The net is stuffed with them though, go take a look around to find one in fairly short order.
I've tried several power adapters and RF cables but I don't get any picture/sound on my television.
OK.
I checked out the Jaguar FAQ and printed off the power adapter specifications and brought it to Radio Shack. I purchased a Sega adapter that matches the specs exactly but the Jag won't power up with it. The only adapter that turns the power light on is a universal adapter (300Amps) that I use with my 2600.
OK, the Jag needs (i think) 1.2A, that's important.
The red light on the Jag comes on when I press it.
Huh? The power light on my Jag is green. Maybe because it's a K series one. You have to have a cart in the slot to make it power up, did you check this? You need to push it in nice and firmly, one side first, then the other.
All I get is a black screen. Although once I could make out a distorted title screen for DOOM and heard faint sound effects but that only happened one time.
Odd. This happened before with Tempest at Christmas - I was really worried but it turned out to be my gradparents TV that was dying ;) Try it with a different TV. Did you tune it to the correct channel? I think mine uses 28.
Could the problem be the switch box that I'm using? It's an old style box for use with 2600-style consoles.
Should still work. Try using an RGB or composite cable instead of the RF output.
Or could the problem be that the power adapter is only 300Amps instead of 1200?
Yes, that's the thing I would check first. The power rating is important. That's mA though, not A (1000x difference, hehe)
I purchased the Jaguar from the USA and I'm in Canada so pretty sure that it's a North American NTSC model.
OK, then it's probably the power supply.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My friends and I can't wait to play the games.
Like I said, it's almost certainly the power supply. Try a new one, or buy a Jaguar one from Telegames. (www.telegames.com)
Thanks,
No problem.
