Hallo,
I am definitely on the side of the
x86-'haters', I have a reason for this:
Just compare the assembly languages
of the mc68k and a x86. If you ever
try to code assembly on an x86 you
will go mad. The instruction an
register set is the same as of the
first x86 (except some PATCHES to
achive 32bit and some MMX stuff).
All what the developers did in the
past was to improve the inner live and
not the assembly level.
You simply can not call
a x86 a designed processor. Of
course the internals are really
powerful (pipelining etc.) but
you can not do efficient code without
enough cpu registers. So you need to
insert a lot of _useless_ instructions
into your code.
A PPC is a _designed_ processor. So
programs can be made more efficient.
A 500Mhz PPC easiely beats the performance
of a 1ghz x86.
I dont want a computer on my desk
when knowing there is just trash
inside - sorry.
But that is just my oppinion as
mc68k assembly lover :-)
