Hello
There is 3 reason for for me to prefer a new clone, than for
example MagicPC (I use it), or prefer PPC, colfire or other
CPU than Pentium or Athlon.
For the CPU a 80x86 will be always slower in emulation than
PPC or coldfire for the same frequency (near 3 times!)
For example MagicPC on PIII 500 is a lot more slower than
MagicMac on PM8600 300Mhz, the problem comme from
the mode little or big Endiant, most of data should be swap
for each instuction!! it's a lot of work for the processor!
I think a PC with a good Magic86! without Windows for example
should be very interesting for hardware, but not for programmers
who want do software for this computer or for classic computer
because for example binary file, could not be exchange without
some work.
Said MagicPC or MagicMac go faster than Hades is not true
for some software it's true but not for all, if you use coprocessor
for calculation the emulation is very slow, even with PowerFPU
on a PowerMac, for my MagicMac it's near 4 or 5 time slower
for floating point program as OpenGL libs. Most of program
with FPU option are in fact very bad compilate for Hades 60
because 68881 use instruction not in the FPU of the 68060
and could be twice faster with good options (*4 on 68040).
I use MagicMac for 5 years, for me an Hades60 was too expensive
it's a very good software, but it have 3 problems for my use of
computer:
-Impossible to do drivers and all sort of direct hardware
-Impossible to use PPC acceleration (documentation problem?)
-Slow FPU emulation

regards
Olivier Landemarre
