The new system would be funded by a company with deep enough pockets to produce the following knockout punch:
A 64-bit computer system. Stealing the design of the IBM PC, the new Atari 64-bit computer motherboard would fit inside any standard AT case. Utilizing open architecture, it will have slots similar to a PC for adding cards. If possible, it may also be compatible with certain select PC cards. The new Atari motherboard would have two or three sets of chips on it supporting the following:
1) The new Atari 64-bit computer, 2) an 800XL EMULATOR on board. Also an ST/TT emulator onboard via upgradeable chip. These could also be available as add-on cards. They would be compatible with the PC emulators out there. 3) Compatible with SCSI and IDE hard drives, cdroms, dvd, Zip drive, etc. 4) Possibly room on the board to have some PC compatibility via hardware if need be.
It would come pre-built with advanced graphics and sound that would equal or surpass the latest PC cards available for home use (Voodoo, ATI.... Soundblaster...).
This system would be expensive, but it would do everything a stocked-up PC could do only better and smoother with the new Atari OS.
On the side, this system would be available in stripped-down versions as:
1) An incredible gaming console system
2) A Web-TV competitor, with the ability for upgrading and with the ability to use a wide array of connection devices from 56k modem on up to ISDN, CableModem, T1/OC3 etc.
3) General purpose computers driven by an "Arcade-Quality" graphical user interface completely devoid of the quirks of those "other" popular operating systems.
OK I'll stop now.
