Congratulate them with that card. It won't make an Amiga run Cubase or Logic. Technology wise yes, but that's of no use without appropriate software. Using a MIDI device says absolutely nothing. It can be used on both systems equally well, but the Atari will still have the advantage of superior software.

That's one of the only niches if not the only niche the ST ever got, though. The Amiga has many more "killer apps" than those two, and some of them are dependent on Amiga OS and hardware features which the ST lacks.
The Video Toaster Flyer is a good example of that.
The Amiga also has decent DTP with Pagestream. It's not its strongest suit, naturally. As for graphics apps, the Amiga got things like DPAINT, ImageFX, and Lightwave 3D. In its waning days Amigas were used to do series television special effects. Not the case with the ST for so many reasons.
The Amiga was simply a better designed system. More advanced GFX, more expandable, better multitasking, and so on. Even systems that are limited in their expandability have enough support on the motherboard to be built out. My Video Toaster Tower system, at its core, is a "console" based Amiga 1200. The Zorro and video slots were hacked on through daughterboards and wiring. Plus I've got an 060 in it and I hear there hasn't yet been an 060 upgrade for the ST.

First of all, the Atari *doesn't need* those expansion slots because either the technology was available in the machine itself (MIDI ports) or it could be

MIDI is a highly inexpensive thing. It is simply a slightly tweaked serial port. MIDI port adapters even 10 years ago cost less than $50. Today every PC sound card is MIDI compatible, with FM synthesis on board and a MIDI port accessible through the 15-pin game port. It's simply not a hypeable hardware feature the way, let's say, 4096 color palettes, HAM, and copperlists were to the Amiga back in the day.

video. Then I expect the Amiga people to admit the Atari is "#1" in MIDI and DTP.

Isn't the MAC #1 in DTP?
