Subject: Why NOT build a hardware decoder for the st/ste...

Author: replicant (ppp72-149-59-62.rtm.zonnet.nl) Date: 02-22-2001 11:20 Hi, I'm studying hard to become an electric engineer and I was wondering if it would be possible to build a hardware decoder for ALL ataris. It has been don by the german computermagazine C't, but then only for 286 (and up) PC's (sorry, I find this as much frustrating as you ;-) ) The idea is simple: get an hardware decoderchip (as used in standalone mp3 players, VCD and DVD players) AND design the neccesary interfacing hardware to VME bus, MEGA bus, ROM cartridge port, ASCI port, falcon exp connector yourself. Anyway: 1. does anyone have a suggestion which interface to use? 2. where can I get mp3 decoderchips for a reasonable prize in small quantities 3. has anyone more technical information about the subject for me? 4. What do you think of the idea altogether? anyone interested?
