Hi !
Three steps to format a floppy disk for ATARI from a PC.
1°) Cover the little square hole of the floppy disk with a black adhesive tape. (black just in case floppy format detection is optical on your PC)
2°) Make sure the other square hole is in writable position. (the plastic stuff must cover the hole)
3°) Access MSDOS mode to format the prepared floppy from 1.44Mo to 720Ko.
Insert the floppy into the PC drive.
Type format a: /f:720 at the dos prompt.
The floppy is supposed to be format to 720Ko double side, double density.
The ATARI will not have any problem to read or write on it.
If you remove the adhesive tape, your PC won't be able to recognise the floppy format.
If you format the floppy from the ATARI own system, the floppy won't be recognise by your PC, even if you cover the square hole. The format description puted on the floppy for the OS to read is a bit different. That work in only one way, exept if you use special format software.
Be carefull. The already formated floppy in 1.44Mo are difficult to re-format them to 720Ko. You may re-format them twice or three times with DOS to get a well formated floppy. It because of "magnetism remanance" from the floppy.
If your ST has got a single side driver, see help of the format command on DOS, or definitly use the ATARI format menu.
Have fun !
