Yes, I am afraid so mate.

CuBase, and all those other types of programs, are simply Midi Sequencers, and they do not play a single sound on their own, and HAVE to have some kind of Keyboard / Synth / Expender connected.

Oh, yes, by the way, they can play sounds ... The Metronome usually!

If you have a Falcon, then you can download a Software Midi Synth, I think one is called MIDIPLAY - it uses the power of the Falcon to pretend to have a Midi Synth connected to it. Dont know how well it does it to be honest as I have not tried it myself.
