I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. A FREND THAT FIXED THEM TOLD ME 1 TURN OFF, 2 DISCONECT, 3 LIFT THE ST ABOUT 4-6 INCHES OFF THE TABLE ( YOU MUST KEEP YOUR ST LEVEL). 4 THEN DROP? HE TOLD ME WHAT HAD HAPEND IS THAT ONE OR MORE OF THE CHIPS HAD MOVED A BIT. BY DOING THIS, IT WOULD RE-SEAT IT SELF. IT DID THE TRICK ON MY ST, AND NOT ONLY ONCE.

HELP!!! I've just bought an ST2 and it boots up fine but it doesn't have anything on the desktops. ie no folders, no nothing. HOw can I do anything without that stuff. Is my computer broken or is it a configuration problem?
Your computer could be broken. When the MFP doesn't get any interrupts from the floppy controller you see this problem.
First switch on the computer with no disk in the drive and no harddisk attatched. The ST will try to read the disk in the drive (not finding one) for about 30 sec. after that it will display the desktop. If the icons for drives A and B are there there was only a disk with a nasty desktop.inf file. Otherwise your hardware is broken.
propable causes:
1) ACSI port connected to the ACSI out port of the harddisk.
2) brokken diskdrive
3) broken floppy controller
4) broken NAND port in the ST
Succes, Hans
