1) What is regarded as being THE Jaguar site, a site that is regularly updated with all things Jaguar?
As The Helper said.
2) In addition to the titles I mentioned above, what others would you recommend I get my hands on?
I personally don't like AvP, but I'd recommend getting your hands on a JagCD (if you can find one) and getting Battlemorph, IS2 (I don't have it but it sounds really good) and VidGrid (I love it, many don't). For carts get Rayman, UV, Power Drive Rally, IS1. Many people like others, but I'd start with them.
4) Battlesphere looks as though it could be a fantastic piece of fun, but I understand that there are no new cartridges available. Does anyone have it, if so what are their thoughts on it, and secondly, is there any way that an original can be found for purchase?
eBay. No others at the moment. Unless you can steal it off someone who has it.
5) What is needed in order to develop Jaguar software yourself?
Firstly, some platform to write your code on. I will use a PC when I finally BJL my jag (see below), you can use a Falcon or many other systems. Secondly, some way of getting your code onto the Jaguar. You can use a FlashROM cart (erasable memory with parallel programming port), a copy of Battlesphere with JUGS (www.buyjugs.com), an Alpine Board (effectively a cartridge emulator) or a BJL jaguar (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Byte/4242/jaguar/). Or you could replace the chips in a cheap cart (Club Drive, anyone?) with sockets and keep on burning EPROMs, although this is expensive if you don't already have the kit to do it with.
6) What is the Jaguar amateur development scene like at the moment and what titles are people looking forward to?
Not big, but exciting. I'm looking forward to The Assassin (www.omcgames.com) and Protector SE (http://songbird.atari.net), although others are in the works. People like Lars Hannig (Starcat) are on hand to help out newbies like me ;) He suggested it's easiest to learn 68k assembly first, so I'm now waiting for my second Jag to arrive for some serious modification. Just don't do it for profit, there's none to be made.
7) Where do you recommend that I purchase Jaguar software and hardware from, bearing in mind I am from the UK? Telegames seems a good bet. Are they reliable?
Reliable yes, but pricey. They also show all of what they have previously had in stock on their site, so check before you order. I bought almost everything I have off eBay UK (good deals). Otherwise try the 'available to UK' option when searching; you'll find www.goatari.com has some good prices and auctions a lot of stuff.
Good hunting!
