Subject: Best way to volumize 16bit samples for DMA?
Author: jack (ip122.boulder.quik.com)

The Falcon's DSP is totally occupied in my software
doing softsynth stuff so i want to use the DMA
for sample playback. However the biggest question
for me is how to volumize a sample quickly.

A lookup table would be 8megabytes long
for even 127 levels and so is not practical
Mul.w is of course to time consuming. I could
generate shifts and adds for each sample frame
but this seems too complicated (it would be faster
then MUL though). I am running in fastram
so i still have to determine whether adding
the samples together is faster than writing to
the 8 tracks provided by the falcon SDMA.
anyway, i just want to know the "state of the
art" as far as code-tricks go. BTW I don't think
the 030 offers any advantages (besides cache) in this case.
