I have done some initial testing of 'STEEM' as part of Ripped-Off Demo CD's ongoing 'Emulation compatibility testing'...
So far the results aren't brilliant.
The main problem areas seem to be with accurate YM sound rendition & many trackers don't palyback at all well.
However, the display of Spectrum 512 type images is closer to working than any other emulator out there!
If I'd to compare it to other emulators out there I'd say that it's performance (ie how well does it run demos?) is not good. Certainly Pacifist in still generally better.
It's ease of use ranks up there with Winston.
That said, it's good to see another emulator on the scene & I hope that the improvements will follow quickly. This is certainly a very worthy first release.
We will be keeping a close eye on it & will hopefully be able to publish some results in our database.
