I can see, that This subject is something that is affecting a lot of us.
Maybe its not up to the programmers of commercial stuff about pricing but the companies who do all the commercial stuff, like packaging & supplying etc, and I feel, that we ( The Atari Community as a whole ) need to get the bigger companies to work with us.
If an Atari Clone was sold for a good price, with some quality software thrown in, and it was internet ready, I know for a fact, that many PC users would be happy to get that instead, I mean, look at the cost of a PC to the average joe... We are talking a grand!!!
If it was the same with the software too, then we could be getting there!
You get software on a PC, its whatever it is, at whatever price.
If you have an equivalent on the Atari, the price is often the same as the PC version, but what happens?
A few months later, the PC version, is given away on a Cover CDROM, but what of the Atari version? - Its still selling for the same original price???
They always argue, that they need to keep the price high in order to cover costs, but I have always found that arguement to be one of the biggest lies in the world, and is nothign short of utter bollocks!
If they dropped the price, more people would buy it, and more than likely, far more, and this would in turn more than cover their costs.
I have one program in my mind, that I want so much, but I have a choice, get this program for the Atari, which costs £80 or continue using the PC Version, which was free?
Now, how many users out there are thinking the same thing ?
I use my atari very seriously, I love it, so much so, that, I would be willing to pay for this program, but not at £80! - No bloody way.
