Hmm .. a very open question.
Emulation is considered to be the art by which (generally) a more powerful computer is programmed to be an older or (as for some of the stuff being emulated) obsolete computer or home console.
However, the above does not really apply now that Playstations and N64s are being emulated quite successfully.
The first "emulator" (I use the term loosely) was the ZX Spectrum emulator for the C64 .. major joke at the time as I recall. Someone, somewhere fell for it, but found is was more of a ZX Spectrum BASIC simulator.
In the last 2-3 years, tons of improvements have seen all manner of machines and consoles from yesteryear being emulated (mostly on PCs under DOS or Windows) and tons of people remembering the good old days.
