Actually Ray is in refrence to then-Atari head honcho Ray Kassar... The programmer.. howard scott warshaw.. was told to do a 2600 version of the Star Castle coin-op. Howard decided it couldn't be done and took what code he had and came up with Yar's Revenge. The story has it that marketing wasn't sure what to do with the game, and tacked on a bunch odf cheesy names. He came up with Yars Revenge so that Ray Kassar would get the game out there.. It worked..
