My advice is to keep copies of the disks so that their content won't be lost over the years.

Maybe they are not the kind of company who allow such things. There are even companies who forbid free distribution of 18 years old Spectrum programs. It's a shame but you can't do anything unless you find someone at HiSoft who may be a bit more cooperative. An official ST site for free old applications/games may help, too. Maybe that's why sites like Amiga Sector One have such success.
