It is probably a WinPrinter, which is similar to WinModems, etc, etc.
The drivers control most of the functions so the printer will not need as much hardware onbourd which brings down their price.
If you have a PC then install the drivers and see if they have settings for DOS Emulation. If this is the case you will only get it working with an HP driver and I do not think NVDI has one.
Another way to tell is if yoo look on the box and see what the minimum spec of PC is, if it says things like P160 then you know that the CPU is doing the work not the printer.
