I had a similar experience recently. I was given an old SCSI drive, which was larger than the one I had installed in a MEGA STe. On inserting it into the case(cabling it up)I got a rather annoying message. It stated something along the lines of 'no logical drive found'. On booting, sometimes I get 'Non bootloaded' appearing on the screen, other times the computer goes through the memory check without finding an HDD. The drive DOES work, but how can I insert a new one into the unit? Any clues as to why this might happen? I have a bootdisc and a MEGA STe Advanced Utilities disc, neither of which have helped at all. I can locate the drive, it gets displayed as either UNIT 0 or just plain 'C'. This new HDD was removed from an Atari and should work. Does anyone have any ideas where my American friend and I are going wrong?
